Ipe, originating from South America, is renowned for its dense hardwood properties, making it impervious to rot, termites, and the elements, ensuring it lasts practically forever.

However, maintaining its natural color can be tricky. Many have struggled with over-application or inferior products, but fear not – we at Florida Deck Refurbishing have simplified the process. Take, for instance, the photo on this page is a recent project involving an Ipe deck left untreated for years, resulting in an unattractive black and gray hue from weathering.

Our meticulous process begins with thorough cleaning with our proprietary solution to rid the wood of surface dirt, oxidation, mold, and previous coatings, followed by a necessary drying period before sanding. Sanding, a crucial step often overlooked, not only eliminates remaining contaminants but also exposes fresh wood and smooths the surface.

Once sanded, the wood undergoes a cleaning and brightening process to promote its natural color, preparing it for oil. We recommend using only Ipe oil to enhance the original color.

Depending on your deck's microclimate, maintenance may be required as visually needed.
